One of the lecturers has taken to showing video films to illustrate his theme. Originally I welcomed this idea as I felt that it would be less onerous than having to listen to him, but the subject matter of the films is what is euphemistically called "adult". I like to think that I am as broad-minded as the next man, but I am sure that many would despair if they knew that candidates for the sacred office of priesthood are being trained with films that include bad language and "femmes dishabilles". I am told that these things are necessary for the dramatic impact, but I remain unconvinced, and I am worried that many of my fellow ordinands are even beginning to look forward to these video afternoons - which they never did with the lectures.
